Dungeons & Dragons Stars Discuss Honor Among Thieves' Chonky Dragon

It's no secret that Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves has been a huge hit, and there are several reasons why people can't get enough of the new movie. However, it's pretty clear that everyone wants to see more of the film's chonky dragon. So what was it like working with an absolute unit? Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis revealed what it was like filming their scenes with the red dragon known as Themberchaud.

In Honor Among Thieves, the party had to go through the Underdark to retrieve the Helm of Disjunction. Although they are attacked by Thayan assassins sent by Sofina, the group were somehow saved by Themberchaud before the dragon began to attack them as well.

Themberchaud was an instant standout in the film because of his pudginess and not surprisingly, Justice Smith and Sophia Lillis confirmed it was easy to react to the chonky dragon.

"It's incredible. I kind of knew it was going to look like that because we had a lot of practical effects on set, and you could see the character design in the practical effects," Smith told Collider.

"They made a head with like all this facial recognition stuff, and there was a guy in the back also puppeteering it," Lillis added.

It's awesome to know that the cast was well aware of Themberchaud's pudgy design and we're sure it made the scenes even more fun to shoot. With that in mind, we're happy that everyone enjoyed working with the red dragon.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves starred Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Daisy Head, and Hugh Grant. The film has turned out to be a huge success, bringing in over $38.5 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend and around $71.5 million across the globe. The movie is now screening in theaters worldwide.
