Dune Star Timothée Chalamet will Play Young Willy Wonka in Upcoming WB Film

Timothée Chalamet is set to play yet another literary legend. The Dune star has just been cast as the young Willy Wonka in Warner Bros.' upcoming movie about the origins of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory character.

Deadline confirms that Chalamet landed the lead role in Wonka, which will focus on the story of a young Willy Wonka before the events in Chocolate Factory. The film is expected to explore Willy's origins and how he ended up building the famous factory.

This is an interesting project for Chalamet considering that Wonka is expected to be a musical. Fans have long pointed out that the Call Me By Your Name actor is a talented singer and dancer. With that in mind, Chalamet will finally get to prove it in his next project.

Willy was first introduced in the Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The character was first played by Gene Wilder in 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp would later take on the role in the 2005 adaptation. Needless to say, we can't wait to see Chalamet's version of the character.

Wonka will be directed by Paul King, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Farnaby. Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson have all contributed to the script. David Heyman will produce along with Luke Kelly while Michael Siegel and Alexandra Derbyshire will serve as executive producers.

Wonka has not yet been given an official release date but is expected to premiere in 2023. Meanwhile, fans can watch Chalamet as Paul Atreides in Dune, which hits theaters on October 1, 2021.
