Later this year, Dune: Part Two will finally arrive in theaters and the audience has been looking forward to seeing how Paul Atreides' saga will continue following the events of the first film.
Yesterday, during Warner Bros.'s presentation at CinemaCon, director Denis Villeneuve, Timothee Chalamet, and Zendaya presented exclusive footage from the film to the attendees where they showed a glimpse of what they have in store in the sequel.
Now, thanks to Vanity Fair, we finally have the first look images at Dune: Part Two that showed us our early preview of the main characters including the new ones such as Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan, Austin Butler's Feyd-Rautha, and Lea Seydoux's Lady Margot.
Pugh's Princess Irulan goes regal on her first look image as she is wearing an all-white royal costume. Her character is the daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV who found herself involved in the warring factions.
"Her stake could not be higher because she’s afraid that her father could lose the throne, could lose everything," Villeneuve told the outlet regarding Pugh's role.
"When I met Florence, I was struck by her assurance, how grounded she is as a young woman, how direct, how unapologetic. She has something inherently royal about her. I will definitely believe that Florence could become, in the future, a prime minister."
Meanwhile, Butler goes bald on his first look image as Feyd-Rautha. While we're only seeing his back, he still has the impression of being a ruthless warrior that will face off against Paul in the film.
Villeneuve described his character, "Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopath serial killer and Mick Jagger."
As for Seydoux, she is joining the film as Lady Margot, a member of the Bene Gesserit, who will become a key part of the sequel. She gives an elegant presence in her first-look image in the role.
"Margot Fenring is a Bene Gesserit sister, but will be a secret agent in the movie. It was very playful to work with Léa. It’s a character full of surprises," Villeneuve said about the character.
The rest of the first-look images feature the returning characters from the first film such as Paul Atreides (Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya), Gurney (Josh Brolin), Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), Glossu Rabban (Dave Bautista), Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), and Stilgar (Javier Bardem).
This is certainly exciting for fans who have been looking forward to the sequel since this is our very first glimpse of the film. While they are just images, it is still a promising preview of what looks like an epic second part of the Dune saga.
