Dune Fans Distraught Over Elle Fanning Losing Major Franchise Role

You may know Elle Fanning for her big roles such as playing Disney princess Aurora in Maleficent and for her most recent series, The Great, but did you know she was almost considered in the Dune franchise, as well?

Fanning has recently revealed that she had a huge franchise role to audition for, only for her to end up prioritizing her role in the Hulu series, The Great.

“That is the one thing that I have to work on,” Fanning told John Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast when asked how she copes when she loses a role she would've been most excited to play.

"Okay, well, Dune, I didn't even get to... audition. I wasn't even up for it at all, because of The Great." Fanning continued, "[But] it feels better because there was no rejection, which was nice, but it was a scheduling thing again. And hey, I might not have gotten it."

Amid the interview, a fan claimed Fanning was actually ‘picked for the role of Princess Irulan' in Dune: Part Two but lost the role to MCU’s Florence Pugh due to ‘scheduling conflict.’

Based on this tweet alone, many Dune fans took to Twitter their grievances of losing Elle Fanning to Pugh. Check out some of the fan reactions below:

Unfortunately, the fan happened to have misread the interview, leading fans enraged that they believed Elle Fanning was initially picked for the role, misunderstanding that the actress lost it because she failed to audition.

The actress was not specifically picked to play Princess Irulan, but she did say she wanted to dedicate more of her time in playing Queen Catherine in The Great.

As for her future prospects of potentially joining major franchises such as Marvel, DC, or even Star Wars to expand her career, “I don’t feel that [pressure]. I don’t.”

Fanning added, “But you also don’t know if they’re going to work sometimes, which is scary.”

It remains to be seen whether Fanning will be joining major franchises anytime soon, however, it is clear she’s taking the high road on getting her new roles. In that sense, which big franchise could you picture her in next?

In the meantime, you can catch Elle Fanning return in The Great Season 3 now streaming on Hulu.

Dune: Part Two premieres on November 3.
