Disney+ is looking to expand its anime lineup this December. Aside from streaming more seasonal titles, the live-action and anime hybrid series Dragons of Wonderhatch is confirmed to release on Disney+ this December.

This upcoming series was revealed earlier this year, though, at the time, only a sizzle reel was shared.

Now though, Disney+ shared a proper trailer that features a look at the show’s cast, as well as its mix of live-action and animation.

The series has a stacked cast, but for many anime fans, Mackenyu is no doubt the biggest draw of this series.

One Piece’s Zoro, Mackenyu, Stars in Disney+’s Live-Action Anime Hybrid Series

Mackenyu has had a large fanbase for years now, but his popularity skyrocketed this year after the One Piece live-action series became a huge hit.

In the series, Mackenyu had to bring Zoro to life – a tough role given how Zoro is one of the most beloved characters in One Piece. Thankfully, he did the pirate hunter justice.

Given this, it’ll be interesting to see how Mackenyu does in Dragons of Wonderhatch. After all, it will feature him in a live-action role along with an animated version that he’ll voice.

Mackenyu isn’t the only big star in this series. While the show’s two main live-action stars are rookie actors, the show has several popular VAs in its cast.

Among these is Kenjiro Tsuda, who voices Gyro. Tsuda is best known as the voice of Nanami in Jujutsu Kaisen, Seto Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Kishibe in Chainsaw Man.

Another voice cast member is Shunsuke Takeuchi as Gafin. Takeuchi is the VA of Einar in Vinland Saga and Usami in Heavenly Delusion.

If the show’s cast is not enough to get you excited about the series, Disney+ revealed a new trailer that showed off new clips from the series’ live-action and anime parts.

For the anime parts, Disney+ tapped Production I.G (of Psycho-Pass and Haikyuu!! fame). You can get a good idea of what to expect in the series via the trailer here:

Along with some animated segments, the live-action parts of the teaser also highlighted more cast members. These include Rena Tanaka, Masaki Miura, Riko Narumi, and SUMIRE.

Dragons of Wonderhatch will be released on Disney+ worldwide on December 20, 2023. For now, there’s no word yet on how many episodes the series will have.
