Dragon Quest V, The Game That Influenced Pokemon, is Getting a CG-Animated Movie

Final Fantasy might be the JRPG that people constantly talk about but Dragon Quest is also pretty beloved, especially in Japan. A lot of this series' games are great, including the recent Dragon Quest XI, which did great on PS4 and PC, with an improved Switch version coming out this Fall. It looks like big things are happening for the franchise as Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest: Your Story, a CG movie based on the acclaimed Dragon Quest V.

Not much has been revealed about the movie, aside from the fact that it will be 3D and be released this August. Fans are probably just happy that the JRPG is getting some love since Dragon Quest V is considered by many to be one of the franchise's best. Pokemon actually owes its existence to this game since the title introduced a mechanic that let players recruit random monsters into their party.

That's right, Dragon Quest V was Pokemon before, well, Pokemon.

Expect more details in the coming months since the movie is coming out this August. At the least, it is interesting seeing both Pokemon and Dragon Quest get CG movies since most of us associate Japanese anime with 2D animation. Let's hope for the best.
