With lots of popular anime and manga getting live-action adaptations, many fans are now wondering if a Dragon Ball Z live-action project will be announced in 2024.

There’s no official info on plans for one, though it won’t be a surprise to see a live-action movie or series get announced. After all, its fellow Shonen Jump franchises like One Piece and Naruto have ongoing projects.

If it does happen, fans hope that it will be a proper adaptation that Akira Toriyama can oversee.

Even though the Super anime hasn’t returned yet, the Dragon Ball franchise continues to get new projects.

For instance, there’s the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima anime, as well as the Sparkling! ZERO game.

What some fans are hoping for though is a proper live-action adaptation. That’s because shows like One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho have recently gotten live-action shows from Netflix that are actually good.

Of course, while live-action anime adaptations have gotten better, there are still doubts. After all, the live-action Dragon Ball Evolution movie from 2009 was panned by both critics and fans.

There’s also the fact that Dragon Ball fights will be incredibly difficult to bring to life. Still, with current technology, there’s a chance that the fights can be executed well.

For now, there’s no official word yet on a new Dragon Ball live-action movie or series project in 2024.

This is a bit surprising, especially as the franchise continues to be incredibly popular around the world. Plus, fan-made trailers continue to get lots of attention, indicating that there’s interest in a live-action movie.

Even if a movie does get announced this year, we likely won’t see it be released anytime soon. Take for instance the Naruto movie which has been in development for nearly a decade.

Netflix is the biggest proponent of live-action anime adaptations. Most of its recent projects have been series.

The rights to a Dragon Ball live-action work aren’t under Netflix though. That’s because the rights are under Disney after it acquired 20th Century Fox back in 2019.

Given its story, a series would likely be a better adaptation over a movie as a live-action film might be too short to adapt even just one arc properly.

As the rights are under Disney, the hope for fans is that a Disney+ series eventually gets ordered to rival Netflix’s live-action anime projects like One Piece or the upcoming Parasyte show.
