Donald Glover Really Wanted the Lando Role in Solo: A Star Wars Story

One of the most celebrated casting choices for Solo: A Star Wars Story was the decision to have Donald Glover play the role of young Lando Calrissian. Glover apparently really wanted the role, and asked about Lando the moment he knew a movie based on Han Solo's life was in the works.

Talking during a press conference (via ComicBookMovie), Glover explained:

"When I heard they were making these, I told my agent 'if they're making anything with Lando in it, I have to be Lando… And he was like, 'I hear you; I don't like your odds.' And that was exactly what I needed to hear. I really did audition like it was the only role I wanted in the world, because it really was. I'm just really happy to be a part of this. My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways."

Glover had also met up with original Lando Billy Dee Williams prior to shooting the film, and he explained how Williams threw all his ideas out the window and told him that the simple trick to playing Lando was: ‘Be charming."

Initial reactions for Solo have been talking about how Glover steals the show, but everyone has also been singing their praises for Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo. With Ehrenreich signed up for three movies as Han, some people are guessing that he could appear in a Star Wars anthology film based on Lando Calrissian this time around.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters May 25.
