Dolph Lundgren’s Eight-Year Battle with Cancer

It has been eight years since Lundgren has been battling kidney cancer.

He was diagnosed with the life-threatening disease in 2015 and was even considered terminal.

In an interview with In Depth with Graham Bensinger, via Yahoo! News, the actor revealed he remained symptom-free for about five years after the surgery.

But when he visited a doctor in Sweden in 2020, he learned he had additional tumors in the kidney and liver areas.

At the time, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer with only two to three years to live.

“I’ve had a great life. I’ve lived like five lifetimes in one. So, it wasn’t like I felt bitter, but I felt sorry for my kids and my fiancé,” he thought at the time.

He then sought a second opinion from the oncologist Dr. Alexandra Drakaki of UCLA Medical Center and was placed on a much-developed medicinal treatment, which helped reduce the size of his tumors by 90 percent.

Thankfully, he only needs additional surgery, and he’s optimistic that after the operation, he will have “no cancer activity.”

Dr. Drakaki is confident that Lundgren’s survival rate will now be in “years” instead of “months.”

But for the star, “You just appreciate being lucky enough to be alive.”
