Who Is Rikuson in The Apothecary Diaries?
Rikuson is Lakan's former subordinate who moved to the Western Capital at Master Gyokuen's request in the hopes of finding someone knowledgeable about the central region.
Based on Maomao's observations, Rikuson has delicate features and usually maintains a serene expression on his face.
He also appeared to be a completely decent human being who understood how to engage in polite conversation with others, not just Maomao.
He is a walking green flag because he is a gentleman and a hard worker—the type of man Maomao can trust.
He is also knowledgeable about politics and economics, making him a charming young man who should not be overlooked.
Rikuson has had a tragic past because of what happened to his family. His house was attacked by brigands and her mother and sister hid him where he wouldn’t be found, but then they were killed in front of his very eyes.
Interestingly, Rikuson can remember every person he meets once unlike his former master who only perceives people's faces as chess pieces.
So, Does Rikuson Like Maomao in The Apothecary Diaries?
Rikuson has yet to admit to Maomao that he likes her, but at some point in the light novel series, he proposes to her, which annoys Jinshi.
Maomao rejects Rikuson, believing that his proposal is a joke, but Jinshi disagrees. Who would make a joke about a proposal? Jinshi thinks Rikuson is serious about Maomao, and that makes it a problem.
After all, Rikuson and Maomao had spent a lot of time together, so it wouldn't be strange if one of them developed feelings for the other.
However, many fans believe Rikuson is suspicious, so Maomao must be cautious around him.
On the contrary, Jinshi has always been envious of Rikuson's tight relationship with Maomao.
In fact, in light novel volume 5, Jinshi witnessed Rikuson dancing with Maomao at the banquet and kissing the apothecary's hands, adding fuel to the fire.
