BBC's Doctor Who series has seen quite a number of partners throughout its run, and in the modern revival of the iconic science fiction television franchise, Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) arrived as the very first companion to travel across space and time with the Doctor. Now, it looks like Billie Piper is set to reprise her role as Rose in her very own audio spinoff series.
According to a new report by Big Finish News, Piper is returning to voice Rose Tyler in a four-episode Doctor Who spin-off audio series called Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon. She will be joined by other franchise actors and actresses including Camille Coduri and Shaun Dingwall who originally played Rose's parents in the modern series (Jackie and Pete Tyler).
Piper will also be accompanied by Mark Benton and Eli Garnet, the original stars who played the husband-and-wife partners Clive and Caroline Finch who both made appearances in the very first episode of the modern revival of Doctor Who, the episode titled "Rose."
Of course, this new audio series isn't Rose's first return to the franchise. Piper also made a few guest appearances throughout the modern revival of Doctor Who, popping up in various episodes of the fourth season of the series and the 50th Anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor."
However, unlike her many stints with the Doctor, the new audio series Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon is going to avoid the many extraterrestrial threats that accompany the stories from Doctor Who, instead putting its focus on the dark and human stories that have become part of Rose's journey throughout a dying multiverse to find the Doctor in season 4 of the series.
Doctor Who airs every Sunday at 8 pm EST on BBC America.
