Doctor Who: Alex Kingston Wants River Song To Meet Jodie Whittaker's Time Lord

Ever since Jodie Whittaker took on the role of the Doctor, Whovians have been wondering how River Song would react to the latest incarnation of her husband. Interestingly, Alex Kingston says she wants River to make an appearance in Doctor Who Series 12 if only to explore her character's reaction to the Thirteenth Doctor.

It's no secret that Kingston and Whittaker had already met at the San Diego Comic-Con last year. However, Kingston recently revealed to Radio Times that she told Whittaker that River should return in Doctor Who Series 12.

"Yeah I did meet her," Kingston said. "We chatted about me coming back to Doctor Who! I love the character, and I think that, my gosh, there are wonderful potential opportunities down the road. But it's not my decision."

So what happened during the meeting? Kingston demurred but hinted at what would happen when River finally gets to meet Thirteen in the TV series.

"The fact is, because they're all the same person ultimately, I don't think she would think of her any differently to any of the others in a way," Kingston said. "Because they're the same spirit inside. It's just a different, deep love."

We're certainly hoping that River will turn up in Doctor Who Series 12. However, as Kingston had already mentioned, that's not her decision to make. We'll have to wait until showrunner Chris Chibnall decides that the Doctor should reunite with her second wife in the show.

Doctor Who Series 12 has already started production. However, the new season is expected to air on BBC in early 2020.
