Doctor Who Adds Mindhunters Star Jonathan Groff in Mysterious Role

Jonathan Groff is jumping aboard the TARDIS. The Mindhunters star is joining the next season of Doctor Who in a mysterious role.

The official Doctor Who website confirmed the news, revealing that Jonathan Groff will play a guest role in the show's 14th season. This means the Frozen actor will be one of the major players who will either go up against or support Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor.

Jonathan Groff expressed his excitement about being a part of the sci-fi franchise.

“I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!” he said.

Showrunner Russell T. Davies is also looking forward to working with Groff on Doctor Who Season 14.

“This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!” he said.

Jonathan Groff is known for his roles in Glee and the hit musical Hamilton. He reprised his role as Kristoff in Frozen II. In 2019, Groff was confirmed to join the cast of The Matrix Resurrections where he played a new version of Agent Smith who was originally played by Hugo Weaving.

Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three special episodes for the franchise's 60th anniversary. The special episodes will bring back David Tennant who returns to the franchise as the Fourteenth Doctor. Tennant, who previously played the Tenth Doctor, will reunite with Catherine Tate who portrayed the Doctor's Companion Donna Noble.

Ncuti Gatwa is set to debut as the Fifteenth Doctor in the third of the special episodes when the Time Lord regenerates. The Sex Education star is then set to lead the show's 14th season later this year. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
