Doctor Strange 2: Writer Discloses Whether [SPOILER] is Really Dead

After months of anticipation, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has finally arrived in theaters. Helmed by Sam Raimi, Benedict Cumberbatch's titular hero is back once again to explore the depths of the Multiverse. Alongside Cumberbatch, Multiverse of Madness also places the spotlight on Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff, who developed into her comic book counterpart, the Scarlet Witch.

Despite being a fan-favorite Marvel character, tables have turned with Olsen's Scarlet Witch fully descending into Madness in the Doctor Strange sequel. Corrupted by the Darkhold, Scarlet Witch wants to capture and absorb MCU Newcomer America Chavez's ability to travel across different universes and use it to get to her illusion-made twins, Billy and Tommy.

The film's conclusion extremely baffled the fans when the Scarlet Witch destroyed the Darkhold and vowed that no one would ever be corrupted by the evil book again. In the process, Wanda seemingly ends her own life by allowing herself to be crushed by the crumbling.

Is the Scarlet Witch really dead?

In an interview with Variety, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron discusses whether the Scarlet Witch really died at the end of the film.

Waldron explained, "I think that’s up for interpretation. She made some kind of sacrificial act that destroyed the Darkhold in every universe, which is protecting Wanda in every universe from being seduced by the Darkhold. Whether she’s dead or not remains to be seen. I know what it’s like to love characters and do not want them to be gone and to hate when they do bad things. But that’s part of the fun of watching stuff and getting swept up in it."

If Marvel Studios is wise enough, they wouldn't let go of not just one of the strongest Marvel characters in the MCU, but also the character who has an intense number of fandom around the world. Story-wise, Wanda’s death in Multiverse of Madness is pointless, and it's very unlikely that this will be the mightiest character’s death. If ever the Scarlet Witch returns in future MCU projects, a redemption arc would be a good idea that would reclaim her title as an Avenger.

Aside from that, rumors swirled that Elizabeth Olsen reportedly signed a 7-year contract extension with Marvel, which clearly indicates that Multiverse of Madness won't be the character's appearance. If lucky enough, fans might even see a solo Scarlet Witch film in the future.
