Yes, Wataru likes Aika, but for the time being, he has been doing nothing to impress the girl he loves. He is staying low-key for the sake of Aika and his plan to keep supporting her from afar.

But at the beginning of the series, Wataru acted like a creepy stalker toward Aika.

He was always forcing himself on her, even during classes, which is why their teachers and their classmates labeled him as the class clown.

Every single day, Wataru would always confess to Aika, but he would be rejected.

It has been a routine for Wataru, and the sight of him tailing Aika from behind has been the usual thing for their classmates.

Wataru likes Aika because she’s good at studying, she has a delicate style he wants to protect, she has a strong mind, and she has a single-minded heart.

But most importantly, in Wataru’s eyes, Aika is the most beautiful girl in the world.

One day, Wataru was almost hit in the face by a soccer ball. The sound of the soccer ball hitting the wall woke Wataru from his delusions about Aika.

It almost seems like he had an awakening that showed him how creepy he is toward the girl he loves.

Because of this, Wataru decided to change. He now sees Aika as an unreachable idol and himself as his number-one fan.

Does Aika Like Wataru in The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist?

It’s not clear whether Aika likes Wataru, but she has obvious romantic feelings for the strange boy. It’s just that Aika has never admitted it to herself, but her close friend Kei knows that she’s feeling something for Wataru.

As stated above, Aika rejected Wataru so many times, even during middle school.

But due to Wataru’s persistence in winning her heart every single day, Aika became used to his presence.

So, when Wataru changed, Aika was left confused, and she had all these complicated thoughts in her mind.

Most of the time, Aika worries for Wataru. She doesn’t understand him, which is why she got curious about him.

When someone changes their companionship with us, we get into this complicated situation where we analyze what we did to make them change—the same thing with Aika.

Is she missing Wataru? Is she feeling jealous toward the other girls that come for Wataru, such as Aizawa, or the members of the public morals commission, like Shinomiya and Inatomi?

This is a natural reaction for Aika, who doesn’t understand what Wataru was thinking.

It almost feels like Wataru's love-bombed Aika, and after this period, he left her hanging. It happens in real life, after all.

As of writing, Aika and Wataru did not end up together in The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist.

They’re still in a very complicated situation where Wataru has become passive about his intentions toward Aika, while the latter doesn’t have the guts to show her true feelings to the former.

In fact, Wataru likes Natsukawa, but he feels that it’s not right. This is the reason he couldn’t imagine hitting it off with her.

The same thing happens with Aika, who believes that she is different from Wataru.

Aika thinks that they are different from each other, even though they spend a lot of time together.

Their values and upbringing are different; maybe that’s why they don’t particularly understand each other’s thoughts.

This is a messy situation to be in, and it would take such a long time for a slow-burn romance anime like The Dreaming Boy Is a Realist to get these two characters their own happy ending!
