Disney’s Dumbo Remake Had A Bigger Budget Than Ant-Man 2 And Captain Marvel

Dumbo is one of Disney's latest additions to its line of live-action reboots and it looks like the Mickey Mouse House spared no expense working on the film because the re-imagining of the classic animated 1941 movie cost a whole lot more than the budgets of Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

According to a report by ComicBook.com, Disney spent a whole lot on the production of Dumbo, allocating $170 million for the production of the movie. That's much higher than when compared to Marvel Studio's most recent blockbuster movies. Brie Larson's debut as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's strongest Avenger, Captain Marvel, only cost Marvel Studios $152 million.

Ant-Man and the Wasp which saw Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly working side by side as superhero partners only cost the studio something around $162 million.

Still, the $170 million budget for Dumbo shouldn't come as a surprise to fans. The trailer for the movie promises a heartwarming spectacle, and based on the film's budget it seems like Disney tried its best to fly high with Dumbo.

Unfortunately, early reviews for the film seem divided. Among the 52 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, only 26 have been positive with critics making note of the film's charm and melancholy. Other critics, however, aren't too pleased with the film, calling it a "downer" and a "forgettable" entry in Disney's roster of remakes.

Of course, fans could feel differently about the film (they usually do), so we'll have to wait and see whether or not Dumbo still manages to take flight at the box office.

Dumbo premieres March 29.
