Disney+ Will Allegedly Add an ‘Adults Only Section’

Ever since Disney+ launched, there has been an emphasis on the platform being kid-friendly, only including PG-13 titles. With Fox and MGM having a huge variety of more mature titles, rumor has come out that Disney is planning on adding an ‘adults only' section to their platform.

This comes from The Digital Bits' Bill Hunt:

While some think that Disney would be porting over the more mature titles to Hulu, it's said that a Disney+ addition would be more practical, seeing as the platform has a more international reach. Again, these are all just rumors for now, but seeing that Disney is kind of the master at brand management, it would make sense that they would try to do something about the adult-oriented IP that they own.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. The pin code option is good for child safety and it will allow subscribers access to way more content. What I'm curious about is how this will apply to future projects. It's been said that Disney won't be able to pursue titles like Daredevil or Punisher because of Disney+'s PG-13 ceiling, but having this adult-only expansion of platform can open doors for more mature IP to come to Disney+. How about an R-rated Star Wars?

For now, all we can really do is wait and see. While it's not official yet, it does sound like the smarter move for Disney. Then again, I would appreciate it if they didn't hog all the content and just ported over some titles to Netflix from time to time.

Disney+ is now available in select areas.
