Disney May Complete Its Merger With Fox Before Avengers 4 Premieres

It looks like 20th Century Fox's mutant heroes might be making their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than expected.

Though earlier reports regarding Disney's acquisition of Fox and its various assets suggested that the merger between the companies wouldn't see completion until Spring or Summer of 2019, a new report by Deadline says the deal between the two has the potential to go through much earlier than expected.

According to the publication, insiders have told them the deal between Disney and Fox could possibly close by the end of 2018. If not, sources suggest that the deal could see completion sometime before Marvel releases the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, the highly anticipated Avengers 4.

Of course, while the completion of the merger between Disney and Fox might excite Marvel fans who've been hoping to see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other mutant heroes to make their way to the MCU, it's likely that Marvel will take its time before using or integrating Fox's mutant properties.

Even if the Mickey Mouse House does manage to complete its Fox acquisition later this year, Marvel won't have enough time to integrate mutant characters like the X-Men or the Fantastic Four into next year's films like Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 – both of which are currently sitting in post-production.

At best, fans could probably hope for an Avengers 4 post-credits sequence that would hint at the arrival of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and all of Fox's other mutant heroes. Until then let's just keep our fingers crossed.

Avengers 4 is set to premiere May 3, 2019.
