Disney Halts The Development Of Little Mermaid Live-Action Remake And Other Projects


Disney sure is taking the COVID-19 outbreak seriously. Not only has the studio decided to push back the release date of Mulan, but it looks like the House of Mouse has decided to put a pause on the production of several other projects as well.

The Hollywood Reporter has the newest update on Disney's upcoming project in the light of the novel coronavirus pandemic, and according to the entertainment news outlet, Disney has decided to halt the development of upcoming projects. This includes the development of Home Alone, Nightmare Alley, The Last Duel, and the highly anticipated live-action remake of the animated classic, The Little Mermaid.

The studio also recently revealed the cancellation of the production of Marvel's upcoming release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

This news shouldn't quite come as a surprise to fans. The spread of the novel coronavirus has cancelled quite a number of events and productions. Not only has the Mickey Mouse House just recently cancelled the European launch event of Disney+, but it's also decided to move the release date of its highly anticipated live-action remake of Mulan.

The pre-production of Disney's Peter Pan and Wendy movie has also been put on a halt.

COVID-19 has had such a major effect on the entertainment industry. It's canceled gatherings like the 2020 Electronic Entertainment Expo and its shutdown theme parks like Disneyland California. The virus has now infected more than 137,000 individuals around the globe. Five thousand of that number has died due to the disease.

Mulan has yet to receive a release date from Disney but we'll update fans as soon as we get word.
