Disney Expected To Invest $500 Million For Star Wars And Marvel Content On Disney+ For 2019

Disney really is investing a lot of money in its new streaming platform, Disney+. Earlier this week, word came out that the Mickey Mouse House was dishing out some serious money to generate new content for its new streaming site. Now, analysts give us the numbers, saying that the Walt Disney Company could be spending up to $500 million for its new content on Disney+ this year.

Variety just recently cooked up a thorough article about Disney's work on its upcoming streaming site and according to the entertainment news outlet, a media analyst for RBC Capital Markets estimates that the company is going to invest about $500 million for original programming for Disney+ in 2019 alone. That money is going to be spent on this year's production of Disney+ content which includes series from both Marvel and Star Wars.

Last year, word came out that Disney was developing limited series for Marvel characters that didn't get their own standalone movies like Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany's Vision, Bradley Cooper's Rocket Racoon, and Vin Diesel's Groot. Not only that, but the Mickey Mouse House was also working on a Star Wars spinoff series by Jon Favreau called The Mandalorian, a show focused on a lone warrior from Mandalore.

Disney Chairman Robert Iger also says that while he's directing the creative teams at Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar that are developing new content for the streaming site, he's given everyone an adequate budget to go around. Aside from all the shows, Disney is creating original movies with budgets that come around $20-$60 million.

Of course, despite these efforts to produce great content for its site, Disney will probably have to wait a while before they can get a turnaround to profit.
