Director Matt Reeves Teases Development of a Batverse After The Batman Movie

Director Matt Reeves opened up about crafting a ‘Batverse’ for Warner Bros.Reeves has mentioned that he is interested in making a Batman universe that focuses on different characters in Gotham City. We all know that the Batman universe is really huge and the Batverse could potentially give some characters their origin stories like a spin-off for villains and allies of Bruce Wayne. The Batverse could focus on certain characters like The Riddler, The Penguin, Commissioner Gordon, and Selina Kyle’s Catwoman.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Reeves discussed his idea on making a Batverse:

"What I really wanted this movie to do is create a Batverse," Reeves explained. "You don't do a story and go, 'This is Chapter 1' because you might not get to do Chapter 2. So, the story had to stand on its own. But the thing about it is that the Bat world is so rich with character that as you're starting to come to an end, you can already start thinking about the next thing. Because the idea, of course, is that Gotham's story never ends."

While on an interview in Los Angeles promoting The Batman film, the director was asked about Catwoman’s solo series, Reeves explained, "You should really talk to the HBO Max reps! I mean, look, what we're really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas we want to do and sure we want Selina to continue. Their relationship and what they are to each other is, to me, that's the heart of the movie is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she's going to evolve and where all of that will go so, we're talking about a lot of things. Of course, we're talking about a lot of things but we're about to release this movie and it really comes down to how people receive it."

If we are going to get a Batverse for DC Universe, it would be a really good choice to focus on a Catwoman spin-off first as actress Zoë Kravitz already looks promising on the trailer.

We still don't have any confirmation for the Batverse yet, but a TV series spinoff from the Batman film is already confirmed and will focus on the villain, The Penguin, played Colin Farell.

The Batman will be in theaters on March 4, 2022.
