Did the Swans Attend Truman Capote's Funeral? Was He Forgiven?

The penultimate episode of Feud: Capote vs the Swans features Babe Paley's death. But what about Capote's end? Did the Swans attend Truman Capote's funeral and what might the FX show tell us about it?

Feud: Capote vs the Swans Foreshadows Capote's Death

After a couple of episodes centered around Capote, episode 7 finally focused on Babe Paley, one of the titular swans.

In Feud: Capote vs the Swans episode 7 Babe finds that she is sick with cancer and only has months to live.

The episode demonstrates some tragic moments from her last few days, including her plans for a party to celebrate her life and her daughter's reluctance to spend time with her.

In her final moments, she has a vision of her former friend Truman Capote.

Later, C. Z. Guest visits Capote to tell him of Babe's death, who informs him that he won't be invited to the funeral but consents to hear his eulogy.

This episode seems to foreshadow Capote's end, which we will likely see in episode 8.

Were the Swans in Truman Capote's Funeral?

In life, the Swans never forgave Capote, though some of them did commemorate him after his death, including C. Z. Guest, who held a luncheon in his memory.

C.Z. who informs Capote of Babe's death in episode 7, seems moved by his eulogy for their mutual friend.

This, and her iconic funeral outfit earlier in the season, seem to foreshadow the possibility of her mourning Capote even though she did not actively forgive him while he was alive.

At Capote's funeral, in 1984, the author's attorney, Allan Schwartz, recalled the New York socialites' ostracization after the release of Answered Prayers.

In apparent defense of Capote, Schwartz mentioned:

"What did they think they had around them, a court jester? They forgot they had a writer."
