Babe Paley (played by Naomi Watts) first learned of her lung cancer diagnosis in 1974. Four years later, she was told that she only had six months to live.

This set the socialite to start working on her memorial party. Babe passed away on July 6, 1978, which was only a day after she turned 63 years old.

Because of her meticulous planning, she was able to prepare for her funeral with finesse. She chose the food and wine that was served during the luncheon.

Additionally, Babe carefully wrapped her jewelry and personal effects to be distributed to her family and friends. These came with personally chosen paper and instructions on how they would be distributed after she passed away.

Her funeral was held in Manhasset, Long Island.

Before their feud, Truman Capote (played by Tom Hollander) and Babe were really close. In fact, Truman was the only one who seemed to make her "genuinely happy."

After his big exposé, the Swans avoided Truman for three years.

So when Babe died, it was C.Z. Guest (played by Chloë Sevigny) who broke the news to Truman.

When he learns this, he says that he hasn't finished writing his eulogy, Beautiful Babe. But unfortunately, C.Z. tells him that he was not invited to the funeral. Because of this, he reads his unfinished eulogy to her.

Even on his deathbed, Truman sees visions of Babe, which is an indication that he has missed a dear friend who never forgave him.
