From the very start of the series, they are the lovers who went through everything from childhood to the present but who knew they were actually destined to meet? In Shadow and Bone Season 2, how far would Alina go to save Mal? Is it worth using merzost to bring him back?
Did Alina Use Merzost To Bring Back Mal in Shadow and Bone Season 2?
The short and apparent answer is yes, Alina did use merzost to save Mal and bring him back to life after he died to be the third amplifier of Alina in eliminating the Shadow Fold in Shadow and Bone Season 2. Mal is the Firebird and he had to die in the hands of Alina to become her amplifier.
Despite Nina being there, a heartrender, she, herself, saw what Alina did to Mal. Nina knows it is too late to bring Mal's heart back because he has been dead for a few minutes.
With Alina on Mal's side, the flashback of Baghra making Alina promise to never use merzost appeared.
This, itself, is a clear indicator that Alina broke her promise to Baghra because the love of her life is on the line. Alina, the living Saint, brought someone back from the dead.

This is dangerous because as seen with the Darkling, the merzost has an intense effect to the point that it consumes the one who wields it. Merzost is not called as an abomination for nothing.
With the new threat of the "jurda parem," an addictive drug that acts as an amplifier, Alina using the merzost to bring back Mal could have an effect in the next season should the show be renewed for another season.
A power so huge like that of Alina, when taken over by the merzost, could be hard to stop and possibly, only Mal can wash down some sense in Alina and prevent her from doing damage to others, be the path for her to be better.
