Denis Villeneuve's Dune Reboot Could Add Javier Bardem As Fremen Leader Stilgar

Denis Villeneuve's upcoming adaptation of Dune already has impressive names attached to it but the film could get even bigger. No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem is reportedly in talks to join the movie's stellar cast.

According to Variety, Bardem is currently in negotiations to play Stilgar, the leader of the Sietch Tabr. Stilgar is noted for being the future leader of the Fremen when they finally unite as one. Needless to say, it would be great to see Bardem take on the role in the new movie.

Stilgar has always been portrayed by great actors. Everett McGill played the Fremen leader in the David Lynch's 1984 adaptation while Uwe Ochsenknecht took over the role in the 2000 miniseries. The role was again recast in 2003's Children of Dune series, where Stilgar was portrayed by Steven Berkoff.

Bardem isn't the only star who is currently in negotiations to appear in Dune. It was previously reported that Spider-Man: Far From Home actress Zendaya is in talks to play Paul Atreides' lover Chani while Star Wars: Episode IX actor Oscar Isaac is considering taking on the role of Paul's father Duke Leto.

The confirmed cast of Dune is already impressive. Call Me By Your Name actor Timothée Chalamet has already been confirmed to play Paul while Rebecca Ferguson of Mission: Impossible - Fallout will portray his mother Lady Jessica. Screen icon Charlotte Rampling will appear as Reverend Mother Mohiam. Marvel stars Stellan Skarsgård (Thor: The Dark World) and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) will portray the villainous Baron Harkonnen and his nephew Glossu "Beast" Rabban, respectively.
