There is little doubt that people are already looking forward to Dune: Part 2, thanks to the promising new cast members who will join the franchise in the sequel. Not surprisingly, director Denis Villeneuve has great things to say about new cast member Florence Pugh.

The filmmaker admitted that he was impressed with the Black Widow star when she was finally cast as Princess Irulan. According to Villeneuve, Pugh is destined for greater things and could eventually become Prime Minister.

Denis Villeneuve was interviewed by Vanity Fair for the first look at Dune: Part 2 and the director had great things to say about his cast. Villeneuve revealed his first impression of Florence Pugh and confirmed that her character Princess Irulan plays a major role in the sequel.

“Her stake could not be higher because she’s afraid that her father could lose the throne, could lose everything,” Villeneuve said.

In Frank Herbert's book on which the sequel is based, Princess Irulan is the daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV, the supreme ruler of the galaxy. By the time we meet Irulan and her father, the Emperor's grip on the warring factions has slipped and they are both struggling to take control.

But what does Denis Villeneuve think of Florence Pugh? The Blade Runner 2049 director admitted he was impressed with the Hawkeye star.

“When I met Florence, I was struck by her assurance, how grounded she is as a young woman, how direct, how unapologetic. She has something inherently royal about her. I will definitely believe that Florence could become, in the future, a prime minister,” he said.

It's no surprise that Denis Villeneuve was so impressed with Pugh. After all, the actor has repeatedly proven her talent and strong personality. With that in mind, we can't wait to see her as Princess Irulan in the sequel.

Dune: Part 2 will bring back Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. The film is scheduled for release on November 3, 2023.
