Given how popular the series continues to be, it should come as no surprise that Demon Slayer Season 3 has set a new anime viewership record in Japan following its premiere.

Specifically, a report by Video Research revealed that Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc had a whopping 12.3 individual audience rating during its premiere week.

This means an estimated 15+ million viewers watched the first episode on TV.

This total viewership rating combines the live TV viewership of the hour-long premiere with those who watched the episode within seven days via DVR.

The show’s continued success is unsurprising for those who follow the show.

After all, following the rapid rise in popularity of the first season, the anime’s popularity exploded upon the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie’s release.

Since then, Demon Slayer has become popular all over the world. It has proven popular enough that a World Tour happened in March to kick off the series’ third season.

This World Tour featured a special theatrical release that combined the last two episodes of Season 2 with the first episode of Season 3.

While Demon Slayer is a globally popular anime, it’s fair to say that it is even more of a phenomenon in Japan.

At this point, it seems that almost every kid in the country knows of Tanjiro, Nezuko, and company.

Thanks to the anime’s success, the manga has also seen a huge rise in sales.

In fact, the Demon Slayer manga is now one of the best-selling titles of all time.

During its TV broadcast, the first episode of Swordsmith Village Arc recorded a household audience rating of 8.0, making it the third highest-ranked anime series of the week in terms of live viewership.

Interestingly, the Entertainment District special edited version got a higher live viewership rating.

Though when counting those who watched by DVR, Season 3’s rating becomes much higher.

The only anime to beat Swordsmith Village in terms of audience rating is Sazae-san, though that’s not a fair comparison given that Sazae-san is a family-friendly comedy that airs at an earlier time slot.

For better reference, there are no other Spring 2023 anime that are in the top 10 in terms of viewership.

So, once again, Demon Slayer is far and away the most-watched seasonal anime.

Given the premiere’s success, it’s likely that even more viewers will tune in, especially during the final episode.
