Who Is Macht of El Dorado, and How Strong Is He in Frieren?
Macht of El Dorado is the most powerful Sage of Destruction, armed with the Universal Golden Transmutation Magic, Di Agolze, which can transform anything in the material world into gold.
During the never-ending war with the Demon King army, countless heroes were transmuted into gold by Macht just in the Northern Countries alone.
All of these heroes, to this day, remain gold, and not one of them could be saved.
The gold that Macht creates with magic is indestructible. No matter how hot it is or how much power one uses, it will never change shape.
If one were to use magic to analyze it, it would be identified as gold but of an entirely different material.
Apparently, Di Agolze can’t be dispelled even with the magic of the goddess, as far as Frieren is aware. It is the ultimate curse, which is imperceptible as magic.
No one can obstruct it with defensive magic, and evasion is not an option either, which explains why Macht is the most powerful sage.
In fact, Frieren can’t even imagine facing Macht with any prospect of victory. This also explains why Frieren understands Serie’s decision to not lay a hand on Macht throughout the years.
In the past, Macht even defeated Frieren, and to this day, the elven mage couldn’t picture herself defeating the sage of destruction.
According to the information gathered by Denken, Macht also wears the Stone Bracelet of Sovereignty, which was crafted by Sage Ewig during the mythical era.
It is the only magical item in the world that can control a demon’s mind.
When the Second-Class Mage Fruh encountered Macht, her comrades were all massacred in the blink of an eye, as if Macht didn’t take a second to cast his magic.
What Are the Events That Led to the Death of Macht in Frieren?
60 years ago, the feudal lord of the Fortified City of Weise used the Stone Bracelet of Soverignty on Macht.
He commanded Macht to serve the people of the Fortified City of Weise and all of their descendants. In the event that Macht commits any malicious acts towards Weise, even the slightest malice, he should sever his own life.
Macht is aware of the word malice, but he does not bear any notion of it. He can’t feel malice, so he can’t bear a feeling that does not exist.
Throughout the years, Macht worked for the feudal lord, until the latter grew old and he remained the same.
This pushed Macht to search for a way to feel malice (human emotions) by destroying something close to him.
He turned the fortified city of Weise into gold, but the stone bracelet of sovereignty still didn’t activate. Unfortunately, Macht can’t reverse his magic anymore.
Over time, Serie appeared before Macht to try to kill him. Serie utilized a magic that could reflect all curses back to the casters, and Macht was overwhelmed.
When Serie was about to kill Macht, Lernen appeared and pleaded for Macht’s life.
Serie gave in to Leren’s request, and she decided to seal Macht with a powerful barrier inside the Fortified City of Weise until the day they could find a cure to the curse that enveloped El Dorado.
Years later, Frieren receives a request from Denken to assist in maintaining the barrier of the Fortified City of Weise. However, Denken had another plan in mind, and that was to kill Macht for good.
Who Caused the Death of Macht in Frieren?
While Frieren deals with Solitar, further away from the barrier, she never stops analyzing the barrier of El Dorado to dispel Di Agolze.
Thankfully, Frieren was successful in dispelling it, and El Dorado returned to normal. That was when Macht was hit with a highly condensed long-range soul track from Frieren, as was Solitar, who was hit by Fern.
In the end, Macht failed to comprehend a thing, and Denken put him out of his misery.
