It may have been five years since Hugh Jackman retired the Wolverine mantle on the big screen but the collective desire from the fandom to see him have one more run with the character is still strong to this day.

There have been rumors swirling all over the internet about the actor's potential inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but as it stands, nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Now, the Australian icon is once again fueling speculation that he will indeed join the billion-dollar franchise.

In a new Twitter post, Jackman posted an image of himself looking at this smartphone and it's causing quite a buzz on the social media platform. Jackman provided zero context with the image he posted but it didn't stop fans from digging deep into what his "surprised" expression actually means.

Naturally, people began assuming that what he's looking through in his phone is actually somewhat related to the upcoming Deadpool sequel. Check out some of the reactions below:

While I'm also convinced that Hugh still has a lot of gas left in his tank to play the character, I think the actor has moved on from the X-Men franchise and there's a reason why he decided to retire the Wolverine mantle in 2017. Sure, a surprise return from him would be epic but it devalues Logan's emotional farewell.

Also, considering Marvel Studios is only beginning to establish their own mutant franchise, it would be logical to cast someone who is relatively younger.

That said, both Deadpool 3 and the X-Men reboot projects are currently in development.
