I think we can all agree that the Deadpool film franchise has been pretty solid so far and despite its R-rating, the first two sequels were certified box office juggernauts, earning a total of $1.5 billion worldwide.

However, the sequel's profit-generating potential was nearly jeopardized after one creative decision that thankfully, was changed before its release in cinemas. We're talking about the death of Morena Baccarin's character Vanessa who is the love interest of Wade Wilson played by the one and only Ryan Reynolds.

Turns out, the death of Baccarin's character was always the plan for the sequel but after the scene was poorly received during the film's test screenings, director David Leitch had no choice but to make some drastic changes, hence Deadpool traveling back in time with the help of Cable's futuristic tech to undo Vanessa's murder.

Speaking with Syfy Wire, Morena recalls: "I feel like I got a call from David Leitch one day, and he was just like: ‘You know, your [scenes] with Ryan are testing so well in this movie, and people are getting so upset [online] that she’s dead, so we’re gonna have to leave the door open for her to possibly come back."

I gotta say, Leitch made the right call by listening to his audience because if the test screenings disappointed its viewers, it could've affected the film's theatrical performance altogether. Now, it'll be interesting to see what the future holds for Wade and Vanessa now that they're crossing over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 is in active development.
