Deadpool 2 Is now The Third Highest Grossing R-Rated Film Of All Time

Deadpool 2 continues to make waves, this time becoming the third highest grossing R-rated movie of all time.

Passing the $700 million flag post at the global box office over the weekend, 20th Century Fox's raunchy comic book movie moved up on the list of the best performing R-rated movies in Hollywood history, finding itself behind the first Deadpool and The Matrix Reloaded.

Though the film might not have been able to beat the original Deadpool movie just yet, it's doing pretty well for itself, setting a record as the biggest international opening of all time for Fox International. During its opening weekend abroad, Deadpool 2 earned more than $176.3 million in 81 different markets. That's $2 million more than X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now, the film has $400.9 million at the international box office.

What's even more impressive about Deadpool 2's achievements is that the film's distribution hubs don't include the Chinese market, which is the biggest source of ticket sales overseas. The film also did well despite the fact that filmgoers came fresh out of the Avengers: Infinity War premiere – one of Deadpool 2's biggest competitors during its theatrical run.

Of course, Deadpool 2's success isn't all that surprising. Fans have been taken in by the Merc with a Mouth's (Ryan Reynolds) brassy charm and wit, and many were eager to see Josh Brolin bring Cable to life while Zazie Beetz played a different kind of Domino. We can't wait to see the team return in X-Force.

Deadpool 2 is currently screening in cinemas.
