DCU's Creature Commandos Receives Casting Update

James Gunn and Peter Safran DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate are already underway, and despite being two years away, every new piece of information that gets revealed or shared by the upcoming projects is sure to excite the fans. Gunn recently teased that his first animated offering for HBO Max, Creature Commandos, is almost done with casting. The DC offering is expected to welcome an entirely new cast of characters while also bringing back a couple of returning actors from Gunn’s previous work.

Gunn was asked on Twitter if there were any updates on the development of Creature Commandos, to which he replied, “Starting production; nearly finished casting.” However, while the show appears to have found the majority of its voice cast, more details are still being kept under wraps. Sean Gunn has previously confirmed that he will reprise his role as Weasel. Viola Davis is expected to reprise her role as Amanda Waller as well.

The animated series is based on DC Comics' supernatural military team of the same name, which was created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick and first appeared in Weird War Tales #93. Aside from Creature Commandos, four other DCU series under HBO Max are being developed, including Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold. The rebooted DC universe will spread across live-action, animation, and even video games.

Former Marvel Cinematic Universe star Frank Grillo recently tagged himself in a post with Gunn, hinting that he could be in line for one of these exciting new roles. The Peacemaker creator also recently teased five fan favorites that are bound for his DCU. Despite not confirming anything, fans can therefore look forward to possibly seeing either Nightwing, Martian Manhunter, Lobo, Brainiac, Deathstroke, Jason Todd (as either Robin or the Red Hood), Zatanna, the Court of Owls, Mister Freeze, or John Constantine in DC's new universe.

Creature Commandos is yet to receive its premiere date.
