DC's Nightwing Could Still Happen with The Tomorrow War Director

There is little doubt that we don't have a shortage of Batman movies and shows. On the other hand, we barely have any projects focusing on Dick Grayson. So what are the chances that we'll eventually get a Nightwing movie? The Tomorrow War director Chris McKay says he is still ready to helm the film.

Back in 2017, McKay had signed on to direct the Nightwing movie for Warner Bros. The project even had a script written by The Accountant's Bill Dubuque and could have been one of the major films in production right now. Unfortunately, the film was deemed not a priority as the studio chose to pursue bigger DC Extended Universe projects.

But would he still be interested in working on a Nightwing movie? McKay enthusiastically admitted that it was the one project he wants to pursue.

"Nightwing is still a movie that I really want to do. I love the character of Dick Grayson as a young adult, becoming his own kind of superhero character," McKay told Variety. He then shared some interesting details about what could have happened in the film.

"That was gonna be a father and son story and also a revenge movie, which I was really excited about because there's a lot going on in that script. It was gonna be really primal and pared down and like a real red meat movie in the best way," McKay stated.

It's great to know that a Nightwing movie would still have an excellent director. However, the decision is still up to Warner Bros. on whether the project will push through. Let's just hope that the studio will realize that Dick's story is one that fans would love to see on the big screen as well.

McKay's latest project The Tomorrow War premiered on July 2, 2021.
