DCEU Director Zack Snyder Explains Controversial Martha Scene in Batman v Superman

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice might have been a commercial success for Warner Brothers, however, the second installment in Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe easily gathered contention from fans and critics because of its narrative choices.

One of the most controversial moments in the movie is when Batman (Ben Affleck) is just about to kill Superman (Henry Cavill). Before the Dark Knight pierces the Son of Kyrpton with his kryptonite spear, Superman begs him to save his mother Martha, a name which turns out to be the same name as the mother of Bruce Wayne.

While most DC fans think the "Martha" scene is a tad bit heavy-handed and corny, Snyder believes that Batman pausing after being reminded of his mother has a lot of psychological implications to it.

Taking to Vero for another question and answer session with fans, (via Cinema Blend), the director addresses the controversial "Martha" scene in Batman v Superman.

"He's basically turned into the murderer of his parents. He's allowing them to kill Martha. He's blinded by his hatred. He's become the thing he hates," Snyder explains.

While it does still seem a little bit heavy-handed, Snyder does make a point. Bruce turned to a life of vigilantism because of his parents death. However, the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman no longer seemed to care whether he killed or not. In fact, Batman was very close to killing Supes.
