James Wan might still be busy directing the DC Extended Universe's Aquaman but it looks like the filmmaker is looking forward to his next potential film in the franchise – a Batman Horror movie.
Wan just recently attended a press junket to help promote Jason Momoa's very first standalone film as Arthur Curry, and during the event, the director talked about the approach he would take if he directed his own Batman movie. During the event, the filmmaker decided to discuss what he hopes to be his next DCEU movie, saying that he'd like to work on a new Batman movie, only this time he'll be able to use his skill as a director of comic book movies and horror films.
Speaking in an interview with Heroic Hollywood, Wan admitted that he definitely likes the idea of a downright scary version of the Dark Knight.
"In the past, like most people, I loved the idea of directing Batman, but a horror version of Batman. That would be a potential fantasy of mine, but I feel like he's been done quite a fair bit," Wan revealed during the interview. "I do love the idea of doing an outright scary Batman. I feel like that'd be really cool."
Batman does have dark elements to it, so it wouldn't be a far cry to see a horror Batman movie. Given Wan's skill as a horror movie maker who directed the first two main installments of the Conjuring film series and the first two films in the Insidious trilogy, we know that the director would make a hell out of a horror Batman movie.
Besides, there's a lot of interesting Batman stories that Wan could take notes from. Maybe the director could check out the Batman and Dracula trilogy, a graphic novel series where Batman becomes a vampire to gain the strength to defeat Dracula and his minions. Or he could take notes from The Cult where Batman is helpless in the hands of evil cult leader Deacon Blackfire. There's a whole lot of horror Batman comics out there.
