DCEU Actress Margot Robbie Didn’t Think Harley Would Be So Popular After Suicide Squad

Harley Quinn might be all the rage with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) premiering today, but Margot Robbie didn't actually think that her character would be any popular after DC released David Ayer's Suicide Squad back in 2016.

Robbie's been busy working on the promotional rounds for her new DC movie, and while discussing Birds of Prey with BBC Radio 1, the actress decided to open up about how she got the character in the first place.

As it turns out, Robbie had so little to go on with when she signed up to play Harley Quinn for DC. There wasn't any script yet written for Suicide Squad when Robbie tried out for the role, and all that the actress could really work with was two strange descriptions of scenes by David Ayer.

"It's so funny because when I signed on to play Harley Quinn, there wasn't a script yet for Suicide Squad. And all that I was really going off of was a Skype conversation with David Ayer and he had described two scenes he had in his head and I loved the idea of them," the actress said on the BBC podcast, "They just sounded so cool and bizarre. I really was picturing it as being a much smaller film that was going to get very little attention, especially since it was going to be a squad of people. Life changed pretty quickly."

Robbie really did well landing the Harley Quinn role. The actress did so well as Harley, she was considered one of the very best elements of Suicide Squad. Because of her popularity, Harley was given her very own spinoff movie – Birds of Prey. In fact, Harley's going to be one of the few returning members in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, a reboot sequel of the original Suicide Squad by David Ayer.
