Now that the DC Universe is fast approaching its launch date, it looks like Warner Brothers is turning the wheels on the streaming platform's upcoming live-action Stargirl series.
According to a report by CBR, the Stargirl series has just cast its lead actress, naming Brec Bessinger as the new Courtney Whitmore. Bessinger began as a starring actress on the Nickelodeon teen television show Bella and the Bulldogs.
Now she's going to take the role of the Stargirl, a superhero high school student who takes on the role after finding the gear of the original Star-Spangled Kid among her stepfather's belongings. She, later on, joins the Justice Society of America, a superhero team that was popular in the early 1940s.
The series official description says that Stargirl will inspire even more teens just like her, saying that she'll be able to move "an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series."
"There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl," Geoff Johns, the co-creator of Star Girl and series Executive Producer, said in a statement. "After searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec's warmth, strength, humor, and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I'm so grateful she's signed on for the role."
Though there are some doubts about what the series might look like after DC Universe's Titans, fans are still hoping that Stargirl's going to turn out fine. Stargirl is set to join up the DC Universe's other live-action drama series like Doom Patrol and Swamp Thing. The series doesn't have a release date yet but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
