2023 marks Ben Affleck's final hurrah as the caped crusader in the DC Universe before the franchise hits the reset button to make way for James Gunn and Peter Safran's creative vision. Originally, the actor "retired" from the role in early 2019 and handed over the reins of the solo Batfleck project to Matt Reeves who later redeveloped it into The Batman.

However, much to everyone's surprise, he was involved in Ezra Miller's The Flash along with Michael Keaton and also returned for Zack Snyder's Justice League where he shot additional scenes.

Now, a new report claims that one of Affleck's cameos has been canned. According to Twitter insider CanWeGetSomeToast, DC Studios has scrapped the supposed appearances of Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The scooper didn't disclose the reason behind this latest executive decision but they claim that both versions of Batman have been taken out "for good".

If you may recall, Affleck was surprisingly announced for the project last year when it was undergoing reshoots. While details about his cameo remained scarce, fans were still incredibly happy for Affleck and some even hoped it would lead to him reprising his Batman role in more projects.

It's a shame that Affleck was never truly given a proper run as Batman, especially considering how his performance was received well by fans and even the then-DCEU's most notorious critics. Obviously, it's time for everyone to move forward and give Gunn and Safran all the support they can get but you can't help but feel bad for everyone who worked on the "SnyderVerse" who were clearly victims of poor creative decisions.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for release on December 25, 2023.
