DC Reportedly Shutting Down Vertigo Comics

It looks like DC comics might be planning to close Vertigo.

Back in February, reports came out saying that DC Comics had plans to cut its line close. Now, a new report by Bleeding Cool reveals a rumor suggesting that DC is planning to close down Vertigo, the comic book publisher's alternative and mature line of comics.

Apparently, DC had big plans to launch a new line of comics for Vertigo during the 2019 Summer San Diego Comic-Con International, however, the report says that "word has come from high" to make changes, including the closing of the Vertigo line.

Contracts are now being revoked and creator-owned titles that have been released through Vertigo have been given back to their original creators. If not, then some of these creator-owned titles could also end up being published elsewhere by another publisher or by a crowd-funding platform.

Though the rumors have yet to be confirmed, we wouldn't be that surprised if it were proven true. Vertigo was supposed to have a relaunch last year, but then the whole vent went sour after Border Town writer Eric Esquivel was accused of sexual, mental, and emotional abuse by Cynthia Naugle, a toy designer. Vertigo also didn't really make anything worthwhile for the publication.

Vertigo's potential shutdown is definitely devastating. The comic book line was first created with 1993 and it's delivered some of the very best American comics like Sandman and Preacher. Hopefully, DC decides to keep Vertigo running, simply restructuring the line.
