DC Officially Announces Dark Knights: Death Metal

Well, that was quick. After Artgerm accidentally spilled the beans about it, DC Comics has officially announced Dark Knights: Death Metal, the sequel to Dark Knights: Metal and the supposed endcap to everything Scott Snyder has been doing for DC. It looks like this is the sequel fans have been wanting and more, especially since it will also follow the events of Snyder's Justice League run and Year of the Villain pseudo-event.

DC Comics has confirmed that Death Metal will be a six-issue mini-series from Snyder and his Batman collaborator Greg Capullo. Snyder has stated that this is the story he wanted to work on right after he finished Metal, pointing out how the previous event left some threads open for him to close. Unlike Metal, it looks like Wonder Woman will be the main focus of Death Metal, whereas the previous event put the spotlight on Batman and Superman.

Here's the central premise of Dark Knights: Death Metal from the DC press release:

The Earth has been consumed by Dark Multiverse energy, having been conquered by the Batman Who Laughs and his evil lieutenants, corrupted versions of Shazam, Donna Troy, Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Hawkman, and Commissioner Jim Gordon. Some heroes, like Wonder Woman and the Flash, have made compromises as they negotiate to keep humanity alive in this hell-born landscape. Others, like Batman, are part of an underground resistance looking to take back control of their world. Superman is imprisoned, cursed to literally power Earth's sun for eternity. But a mysterious figure provides Wonder Woman with vital information she might be able to use to rally Earth's remaining heroes to resist the Batman Who Laughs. Can the Justice League break away from the Dark Multiverse and defeat Perpetua?

It's clear that Dark Knights: Death Metal will be a wild trip and one that these creators can't wait to take us on. Snyder and Capullo have given us some of the wildest Batman comics we've ever read. We have high hopes for this one.

Dark Knights: Death Metal #1 comes out this May, with the second and third issues coming out in June and July respectively. Issues 4, 5, and 6 will then come out in September, October, and November.
