DC Films President is Reportedly in Danger of Losing His Job

Now that Warner Bros. Discovery has taken over the ownership of Warner Bros., there have been questions about the future of the DC films, especially with CEO David Zaslav expressing his intention on making DC a bigger franchise in the studio and put it on the same level as Disney's Marvel Studios. However, as he is assessing the current state of DC Films, it looks like its leader might lose his job soon as a result.

According to a recent report from Variety, DC films head Walter Hamada is in danger of losing his position in the company as Zaslav is reportedly frustrated with how DC is an under-utilized asset and the cinematic output has also been inconsistent. He is also disappointed with the lack of long-term planning in terms of releasing sequels and follow-ups to some of their popular movies.

In addition, Zaslav is also eager to find a leader who can head DC Films that is in the same vein as Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. He has reportedly approached former Paramount Pictures executive Emma Watts for the position, but negotiations apparently fell apart. As of now, there is no expected announcement in the future regarding the new leader of DC Films as Hamada's contract is set to expire next year.

Based on this report, it looks like Zaslav is indeed eager to turn DC Films into the biggest crown jewel of the studio as he recognized that it is their biggest asset and also saw how Disney is treating Marvel as their biggest IP and their extensive utilization of the library.

Of course, finding a new leader is going to be a huge challenge for Zaslav since nobody in Hollywood is in the same vein as Feige although there could be someone that might be able to at least help him make DC Films into the crown jewel that he would want it to be even if it won't be in the MCU level.

It would be interesting to see what direction will Zaslav do in the next few months regarding the future of DC Films and if Hamada's days in the company are over soon despite his contract expiring next year. Either way, we should expect bigger changes in the DC film slate in the next couple of years.
