David Corenswet's Past Comment About Clark Kent Gives Him More Edge As Frontrunner For Superman

After a list of contenders for the new Superman emerged online, one name stood out and made fans think he deserved the Man of Steel title. It’s none other than David Corenswet.

Corenswet’s promising filmography and quite a charming resemblance to Henry Cavill made fans divert their attention to him.

A known DC fan account, @homeofdcu, tweeted a 4-year-old statement from The Politician actor that indicates how much he wants to play Superman and that fans are rallying to make his dreams come true.

“It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me. But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback, [take on Superman]. I love Henry Cavill's dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.” said Corenswet.

Fans have stated that the actor’s comment convinced them that he could be the perfect successor to Superman, noting his respect for Cavill and his passion to play the hero.

Last year, furious DC fans took their disappointment online after Cavill announced that he’s no longer moving forward as Superman. At the time, the fans thought only The Witcher star was the right choice.

Now that a favorable candidate has joined the mix, fans are beginning to change their sentiments and root for Corenswet if he ever decides to audition or if he successfully nabs the role.

Given that the fans' attention is currently on the topic of the next possible Man of Steel, user @RichardOcelot reminded the fans about one important thing.

“There's nothing wrong with Henry Cavill being your favourite Superman, but saying "General audiences won't accept Gunn's new actor cos they're expecting Cavill" is so silly. The last time most casual viewers saw him was in Justice League (2017). They're not *that* attached to him.” he wrote.

Other users have echoed the sentiment, indicating that casual viewers won’t ever care if Cavill is no longer Superman, which should give them a reason to give the new one a chance.

After the rumors, Gunn took to social media to debunk the names that are circulating and say only one role has been cast yet, and it’s not what everyone seems to think is most significant.

Gunn previously said that Superman: Legacy will be moving and emotional. He also recently revealed that they intend to shoot in January 2024 as the movie targets a July 11, 2025 release.
