Now that Zack Snyder's version of the Justice League will finally be released on HBO Max, a similar route for David Ayer's cut of the Suicide Squad is possible. The director has been answering more questions about his original vision for the film since the announcement, one of which clarifies a timeline error involving Harley Quinn and the Joker.

In the first act of the Suicide Squad, the team was introduced to the audience along with a text onscreen. Harley's intro reads "accomplice to the murder of Robin," implying that she was involved with the Clown Prince of Crime in killing Batman's sidekick. However, a key detail doesn't add up.

Ayer previously explained that Batman punched out Joker's teeth for killing Robin which is the reason why the latter is forced to get a set of metal grills. Joker was sent to Arkham Asylum where he meets Harley Quinn. This contradicts the timeline Ayer had initially planned since Harley can't be an accomplice to Joker in the murder if they haven't even met yet.

When asked about this timeline error on Twitter, Ayer confirmed that it was added by Geoff Johns, the head of DC Films at the time. Which "broke" the timeline that Ayer had planned out. You can check out his tweet below.

Ayer had a lot of plans for his original script that ended up getting changed in reshoots. The director himself revealed that Deadpool's success and the disappointing performance of Batman v Superman made the studio insist on altering Suicide Squad.

The Ayer Cut movement seems to be gaining some momentum but it's unclear whether Warner Bros. wants to make this happen yet, especially with a Suicide Squad movie in the works from J.J. Abrams.
