In the latter volumes of Date A Live, Ratatoskr and Deus Ex Machina Industries’ climactic fight happens. At the end of this fight, the Spirit of Origin dies, and because of this, Spirit powers fade away from everyone.

While most of Shido Itsuka’s other love interests only lose their Spirit powers, Tohka Yatogami fades away entirely as she’s a pure spirit.

One year after the Spirits disappeared, Beast appeared and wreaked havoc on the world. It turns out that Beast is Tohka from a parallel world where Shido died and Tohka went on a rampage.

Shido goes on a date with the parallel universe Tohka and invites her to stay in this world. She declines and returns to her world.

There, she meets the world’s Kurumi, who says Tohka may be able to reverse the damage.

Back in the main world, it’s revealed that Tohka has been revived thanks to the Spirit of Origin, who revived her as a gift for Shido before she faded away.

With Tohka revived, Shido reunites with her in the same spot where they first met. She then proceeds to meet with everyone. This is where the series ends.

Tohka being revived may be convenient, but it makes for a happy ending for everyone that many fans like.

While Shido and Tohka reuniting in the end seems to imply that the two will get together, the ending does not definitively reveal if they will end up together.

Thus, it is up to fans’ interpretation if Tohka will eventually be Shido’s main love interest. Unless of course, a sequel for this harem romance series is released.

Date A Live season 5 premiered yesterday, April 10. This season will be 12 episodes long, and its story starts with the events of volume 17.

As the light novel series ends in volume 22, it’s unclear if the season will cover the series’ story until the end.

There are theories from fans on Reddit that the fifth season will adapt volumes 17 to 20, with volumes 21 and 22 possibly getting a movie. This makes sense as these two volumes happen after a one-year timeskip.
