Dark Phoenix Director Simon Kinberg Would Have ‘Fixed’ New Mutants

With the Disney/Fox deal nearing finalization, Fox has two more X-Men films to pump out, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants. While DP underwent some heavy reshoots last year, it was said that Kinberg would have overseen reshoots for New Mutants as well.

This comes from The GWW's Thomas Polito:

By the sound of the report, it looks like Kinberg didn't get to do the reshoots for New Mutants after all, and the film will end up the way director Josh Boone envisioned it. The way it looks, Kinberg was too busy working on DP to work on anything else. He may have been involved with the X-Men franchise for a long time, but Phoenix will be the first film that has Kinberg credited as the director.

This news that Kinberg almost tampered with New Mutants is coming as a relief to a lot of fans. Kinberg was also said to have been involved with reshoots for the failed Fant4stic, and everyone remembers how infamously terrible that movie ended up. Then again, there were also reports coming out from that set that director Josh Trank was being very difficult to work with on set.

For now, fans aren't really expecting much from the last films in Fox's X franchise. The Dark Phoenix trailer was underwhelming, and a lot of people have already forgotten that New Mutants was happening. As someone who's been with the franchise since 2000, I just hope they end it all before it gets any more terrible.

Except with Deadpool; keep those movies coming, Disney, and don't you dare recast Ryan Reynolds.

The New Mutants is set to come out Aug. 2.
