Daredevil Season 3 Showrunner Confirms Born Again And Guardian Devil Influences

Daredevil's Erik Oleson, the showrunner for the third season of the franchise, has just confirmed something that fans have been guessing these past few months – that the next season would take a few cues from a few Daredevil comic book arcs including Born Again by Frank Miller and Guardian Devil by Brian Bendis.

Screen Rant visited the set of Daredevil season 3, and during the tour, the publication got to speak with the series' new showrunner Erik Oleson. Though the showrunner says that the series is going to take a few liberties with the source material, the new batch of episodes for Daredevil is going to take notes from both Born Again and Guardian Devil.

"My hope was to draw inspiration from comics - the comics like Born Again and Guardian Devil. There are certainly moments that resonated for me tonally that I used as inspiration, but [season 3] is an original story. I am not doing a direct translation of any of the comics, I think that would have been a mistake."

While Oleson would want to follow the comics even more closely, the showrunner says that the team shouldn't give fans what they want – well at least not in the way that everyone expects. It still matters to the showrunner that the team gives Daredevil fans an original story, even if it takes a few notes from the comics.

"I want to give the audience what they want, but not in the way they expect it. I want to make sure everybody's really hooked with an original story where they are deeply invested in the characters this season and understand why the characters behave the way that the behave and do the things that they do and I was very must interested in bringing more contradiction and dimension to some of the characters that we've grown to know and love."

Of course, fans know that Daredevil won't be able to fully adapt Born Again. The series' secondary characters are all scattered in different places when they ought to come together. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) is still in Prison, and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) in the series is featured as a journalist (in the comics, the character is supposed to be a drug addict who sells Matt Murdock's identity for a quick fix).

While the series might come off as a loose adaptation of major comic book arcs, fans still can't wait and see what might happen to Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) now that he's at the lowest of the low.

Daredevil season 3 is set to release on October 19.
