Daniel Radcliffe On Whether He Really Is Replacing Hugh Jackman As Wolverine

Yesterday, X-Men fans were sent into a frenzy after Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe claimed that he was going to be Fox's new Wolverine. While Hugh Jackman has been the definitive face of everyone's favorite adamantium-clawed mutant, the actor retired from the role after performing his swan song in the gritty character study movie, Logan.

Since then fans have been wondering who exactly would take on the role, especially now that the X-Men and all of Fox's other mutant characters would be making the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Disney's acquisition of Fox and its various film and television assets. Though fans weren't entirely expecting Radcliffe as a contender for the new Wolverine, the Swiss Army Man star ‘announced' that he was going to take on the role after completing one of WIRED's Autocomplete interviews.

Now, after stirring up controversy, Radcliffe gives us the truth: no, he's not going to play Fox's new James Hawlett.

Speaking in an interview with IGN, the British actor regrets just how far netizens took his little Wolverine joke, saying that he'd been put in a "hot wash" for his tongue-in-cheek response to an Autocomplete question.

‘This is what happens when you make jokes. Wouldn't it be great if you could just start casting yourself in things by just saying them in interviews?" the actor lamented, "So I guess people have been asking something about me and Wolverine, and I made a joke about [playing] Wolverine after being in a hot wash, like I'd been shrunk in a hot wash, and the internet seems to think that I was putting that out there on my dream board cosmic ordering system."

Underlying his point, Radcliffe finally says "there's no truth to it."

This is sad for fans who were eager to see Radcliffe as Wolverine. Known for his role in the massively popular Harry Potter franchise, Radcliffe has been able to make a name for himself in the Hollywood industry, taking on all sorts of films in all sorts of genres.

Fox's next X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, premieres June 7, 2019.
