Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been clamoring for years to see Daniel Craig join the billion-dollar franchise but did you know that we came very close to seeing him in a Marvel project? In case you weren't aware, the James Bond franchise star originally signed on to make a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but the actor abandoned the project due to rising cases of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom during the time of filming.

The silverling of it all is Daniel's departure paved the way for John Krasinski to finally realize his MCU dream as Mister Fantastic but it surely left a massive "what if" story for fans. Now, five months following the release of the MCU blockbuster, we're now getting our first official look at the Agent 007 actor's Marvel hero.

Taking to Instagram, concept artist Darrell Warner shared our very first look at Craig's scrapped Marvel character, Balder the Brave who would have been a member of Earth-838's Illuminati. Warner didn't confirm reports surrounding Craig's exit but urged fans to "look it up" for some clarity. Check it out below:

It's a real bummer that we never got to see Craig in Doctor Strange 2 but that's not to say that Marvel Studios has closed its doors on the actor, especially now that he's gone from the Bond franchise. Now, whether or not he'll actually get to play Balder the Brave in the MCU remains to be seen but I wouldn't mind if they gave him a more substantial role. There are still loads of characters for him to play.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
