The Star Wars franchise is ready to make its grand comeback to the big screen and after years of a stagnant movie slate, Lucasfilm is more determined than ever to release the follow-up to the sequel trilogy.

Ahead of last month's Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that Damon Lindelof has exited his supposed project with Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Several reports claim that Lindelof's first draft for the supposed "Episode X" failed to meet expectations which led to Lucasfilm letting him go. Other sources claim that it was an amicable decision on both ends.

Now, Lindelof is breaking his silence following his controversial exit. In an interview for Esquire, the Watchmen writer was asked to explain a headline about his "axed" Star Wars project, which was later confirmed to mark the return of Daisy Ridley to the franchise.

Contrary to what previous reports have claimed, Lindelof didn't exit the project by choice. Instead, Lucasfilm asked him to drop out of the film set generations after The Rise of Skywalker. Well, at least that's what he said.

He said: "I was in more than talks to join the Star Wars universe. I joined the Star Wars universe and was asked to leave the Star Wars universe." Unfortunately, Lindelof didn't spill key details about what led to his departure from the film.

It's worth noting that Lindelof reportedly wanted to introduce new lead characters to the fold but the production company instead chose to bring Ridley back.

It's a shame that we will never see him fulfill his creative vision for a post-sequel trilogy Star Wars but in my opinion, Daisy coming back to the franchise is the right call.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Star Wars film is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
