The Star Wars universe is set to bring some much-needed balance to the Force. After being plagued with a stagnant film slate, Lucasfilm confirmed at this year's Star Wars Celebration in London that the franchise is heading back to the big screen.
The beloved science fiction property has been trying its best to release film content since 2020 but several issues were experienced along the way — from cancellations to creative conflict between the production company and its directors.
However, just when things began to look more promising, a new report offers some discouraging updates regarding the status of Lucasfilm's Star Wars movie slate.
Two Star Wars Films Set For Release in 2026; Daisy Ridley's 'New Jedi Order' Project Potentially Delayed
According to a new production report (via The Direct), two Star Wars film projects have been given official release dates. The first one, initially expected to drop in December 2025 is now eyeing a May 22, 2026 premiere.
Additionally, a second Star Wars flick is set for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. This marks the first time the franchise released two film projects in one calendar year.
As it stands, we still don't know which projects it will be but it would be safe to assume that the one aiming for a May 2026 release is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's "New Jedi Order" film which is the furthest in production.
The other one could potentially be Dave Filoni's MandoVerse film but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this new release scheme plays out.

Last May, we reported that Daisy is set to work on a Die Hard-esque thriller film titled Cleaner directed by Martin Campbell which could put her Star Wars return on hold.
While we'd like to assume that her upcoming film commitment is what caused the latest Star Wars movie delay, it's also worth noting that the WGA strike is still in full effect.
